Craft My Day! - How to Make a Tortoise

7 July 2010

Once upon a time, you were able to memorise all the Disney Channel's Craft My Day segments from the dialogue up to the intonation of the person saying them.

This was the turtle we made. It's lost one leg and its green colour as this picture was taken on 16/9/15 - 5 years after we made it.

I want to get fit!

Last Tuesday, you surprised bak when you told him "bak, on sunday when you are on holiday lets wake up early and exercise because I want to get fit"

Hahaha so cute when your 8 year old daughter says that. When he told me about it I told him that you had just learned in school - things to do to get fit.

Best Mother Ever!!

There are many traits a mother should have to earn this title - a good cook, plays with the children, listens and talk to the kids, treats the children to fun stuff, helps with homework etc. You know the usual mum stuff. Well recently you bestowed me with this title during dinner just because of my funny facial expressions and reactions! Hahaha apparently, your mom is unintentionally funny and you and bak are more often than not are in cahoots and laughing at me. I don't mind really but i just find it hilarious that you find me so funny. Hahahaa

Maher Zain

It's been a few months since early 2013 that you've been listening to Maher Zain's Thank You Allah album. Masuk kereta pergi dan balik sekolah itu ajelah yg Arwen dengar. Everywhere we go, you want to listen to that album and the cutest thing ever is that you can actually sing along to most of the songs. Its's so cute and funny and inspiring all at the same time.

Keep Calm and Wear Pink

11/3/13 I had an interesting conversation with Arwen today. Well, I need to give a bit of a background story though. She can't wait to finish school - to which I previously explained that after primary school, she needs to go to secondary school and at least university, so relax and enjoy your school days etc bla bla bla. Anyhow, today she asked;
Arwen : What kind of school is "Waktu Rehat? (a tv series). Me: It's a secondary school
Arwen; How do you know?
Me; because of the uniform. You don't wear uniform in university.
Arwen; WHAT??!!! (she sounded like "how come you never told me this before???) Wait a minute. Wait a minute. (I guess she was trying to grasp this revelation that I just told her and asked....)You mean I can wear PINK????
Me; hahahahahahahaa

I  posted the above in Facebook and then I wrote this for you Wen.

Dear Daughter, I am sorry that you find school is boring. I am your mother and I'd move mountains for you if I could but for the life of me I do not know how to make school fun. Things will get better as I hope you will find some school activities that you can enjoy and good friends that you look forward to see every day. We've got a long way to go so let's take it one day at a time. Meanwhile, keep calm and wear pink clothes (when you're not in school, that is). Love, Mama.

Troll Talk

Jan 22, 2013. You were so cute Wen, no teeth and all. You were saying the dialogue between 2 trolls from the movie Tinkerbell and The Lost Treasure.

Troll 1: The expression, to grind the bones to make our bread, not bed!
Troll 2: Oh, really? Who would want to make bread out of bones? Might break a tooth.
Troll 1: Well, who would want to sleep in a bed made out of bones? It's hard on your back, put a creak in your neck!

You always have a talent to imitate or mimic anyone or anything that you want.

Shopping

17 jan 2012- today you asked me "how come you dont want to go shopping anymore ma? Is it because you are tired?

You had heard bak and i talking about how i said we should stop shopping this year. Then you worriedly ask "but what about food? How are we going to get food?"

Oh dear i am so sorry you thought that stopping shopping also included grocery shopping! Well i explained that of course we wil still buy food! I was referring to clothes, shoes, toys, unnecesary stuff which we already have enough.

I know having and buying things are great but we cant have too many things because then we'd be bogged down with too much clutter.

How Mama and Bak first met

17 Jan 2013 - Today coming back from school you asked me how Bak and I first met. Wow. I think I asked Tok Bak how he first met arwah Tok Bak when I was in my late twenties I think! hahaa You are so young and already asking this question.

Well, we met in our Australian matriculation (ausmat) programme when we were 17 years old. Well i was almost 18 since we met in June 1993. We were classmates (class Selwyn). Actually, we have a mutual friend, Aunty Zaireen. She was my Bbgs schoolmate and bak's tuition mate in Form Five. She also worked with bak in the Giordano (clothing store) after they finished Form Five. Well, anyway she told Bak to find me when he entered Ausmat. Little did we all know that bak and i would be classmates, good friends, best friends, and getting married 9 years later.

Tunnel - no radio signal

This was last year. I found it interesting that you can have a conversation with me now. Everyday we go through the Penchala Link Tunnel to get to your school. It is a short tunnel but the radio does not get reception inside the tunnel and you asked me why. Especially because you remembered that when we go through the Smart Tunnel - the really really long tunnel, we can still get radio reception there. So clever anak mama. Well, even though it was too early in the morning to get technical, I basically explained that its all got to do with the signal antenna for receiving the radio reception. They did not install it in the Penchala tunnel but they did so in the Smart Tunnel.

Talking with Arwen

I first drafted this entry in October 2012. So these conversations would have taken place before this date.

It has been a while since I wrote about funny conversations we've had. Let me see if I can recall.

1) Recently, while we were at a red traffic light, I kind of pranked you. You were looking outside the window and I called your name. So when you turned to look at me, I had my finger next to your cheek and automatically poked your cheek. Then I laughed and then you exclaimed, "Ma! How can you do this to your own daughter??!!"

2) For whatever reason, you decided to strike a vogue pose as we pass through the guard post at our house. Mama geleng kepala la sambil ketawa.

3) I scolded you one time after school because basically mama tak tahan sebab Arwen selalu hilang stationery kat sekolah. Pencils, rulers, erasers, colour pencils. I've been holding back for so long because I did not want to get worked up over stationery because yes, we always have extra at home but that one day I sort of blew up because you rwhole colour pencil was takenn by someone else and you said you did not know who took it. Its the principle that matters - You must learn how to take care of your things and don't let other people take your stuff. So I went on and on explaining the importance of taking care of your own stuff and when I stopped to take a breath you said "Ok Ma, how about a kiss to calm you down?"

Arrggghhh pandai Arwen ye. Usually you would never volunteer to kiss me anymore because nanti basah la due to the saliva and because Mam's face is oily. hmmmmm tak jadila mama continue marah masa tu. Sabar jelah.

4) This was after Hari Raya August 2012, we were having dinner st Dome. I can't remember exactly what we were talking about but you said "I see azra play with her saliva all the time. It's super gross." Such acute observation hahhaaaa. You don't like being kissed by me ever since pre-school, maybe since you were 5 years old because nanti nak kena wipe-wipe.

5) You've been wanting an adik and now you want 2 brothers and a sister named Gumball, Darwin and Annayiese especially so that the chairs at our dining table is filled up.

6) There was once that I jokingly said "mama tak nak kawan arwenlah" to which you replied quite seriously "mama you are not my friend..., you're my mama"

7) You have the same problem I had when I was in school more than 20 years ago. I can't belive my daughter has the same problem. We have large handwriting and the blank spaces given in the activity books are always so small. Totally insufficient for us with the big fonts, You commented during one of our daily homework sessions "Kesian arwen, kena tulis kecik macam tikus."

8) You have learned a bit about the value of money so whenever  you want something you will ask "Do u have enough money bak?" There was one time you followed Bak to work because there was a Raya gathering. Bak was on half-day that day, so you guys came back after lunch. (I went to my exercise class and so I didn't go to the gathering). Sometime after that, you asked for something from Bak and Bak said he didn't have enough money and then you said " Oh I know why you don't have enough money. Its because you went back early that day" So adorable.

9) You are my girly girl. You love dressing up, make up, nail polish, dresses etc and pink stuff in general. As for me, I just like pink and not much of the other stuff. So you wondered when you were younger than 5 years old. You were probably 4 years ols and you asked me "Why dont you wear make up Ma? How come you don't wear dresses ma?"

O-jus!

Ok this post is in Malay.

Tadi dengar Arwen dgn Ya main O-som / O-jus berdua. Arwen pun ketawa sekali tengok kita ketawa. Lepas tu Mama minta Arwen tunjuk jarum macam mana rupanya. Arwen pun tunjuk jari telunjuk macam no 1 gitu...hai Cik Wen mana datang jarum ni pun Mama tak tau. Takpe - esok Mama ajar main o-som ye.

Pancake vs Roti Canai

This was during Ramadhan this year. You suddenly asked for pancakes for breakfast. I haven't made any in a long time. The last time I made it, it probably came out of a box. So on that particular morning, I was so sleepy as I went back to sleep after sahur at 5 in the morning. So even though I was still so sleepy, I willed myself out of the bed, turned on the computer to look for a recipe since I can't recall what ingredients would be needed and proceeded to make the pancakes. So this is the result (see picture below)

So after all that, you looked at the pancakes and said " Ma, i asked for pancakes not roti canai."

errggghhhhh!!!!

Nasib baik Arwen makan jugak. After that I realised I forgot to put baking powder, patut la pancake mama tak naik,,,,hmmmm..sorry Wen :)

The Things I do for Love

Earlier this year you loved watching the cartoon "Courage The Cowardly Dog" and there was 1 line that you imitated so well. Courage the dog would often say "The things I do for love.." You could imitate it down to the intonation. It was so funny.

Just look for it on You Tube.

Penyut Minuman

Today, on the way back from school, we bought Slurpee at 7-eleven. While I was driving home she said "Penyut minuman ni macam sudu." I went "Eh?What?"...tak pernah dengar perkataan ni...Rupa-2nya, penyedut minuman = STRAW!! hahahaa lawak la Wen.

Bak - gangster??

24.4.2012 - Bai picked up Arwen from school and 2 boys from her class saw him and said out loud "ooo..bapak Arwen gangster..." hahahaha rasa nak guling2 ketawa. I wish I was there to hear it. :)

21.10.2010
Yesterday Arwen told me "Tomorrow is my dream come true." Terkejut I, so I asked her "How come?" and she said "It's my Birthday!!" hahahaha..isn't it wonderful to be 5 when all you want is a birthday. :)

Mac & Cheese and Cooking Class

You just started eating macaroni & cheese (previously you eat macaroni and you eat cheese but not both together) - so at Chillis, KLCC, I asked you "Would you like mama to learn how to make macaroni & cheese?" You put down your food, (you ordered the usual pizza & for the 1st time ever - the mac & cheese!) turns to me and says "Yes Ma." Then you patted me on my back and with wide-eyed innocence & seriousness and a hint of compassion, you added "You should go to a cooking class, an old people cooking class" :) Then you continued to eat.

Who is cute?

Sometime in June 2011 I asked jokingly " Who is cute Arwen? Me or you? and you answered in all seriousness and honesty " Mama you can't be cute. You're old." Terpinga-2 Mama tau hahahaha
