You should know that this is my first time ever doing this in my adult life. I can't remember whether I did this when I was a child. What am I talking about? This.
..and who painted them? Arwen - lah...This was actually on 18 Dec 2009. You insisted that you wanted to paint my nails. We bought your first nail polish at the RM5 shop using your own money. Ni semua your kakak Nisha and cousins la ajar. Bak actually took a photo of you painting my toenails but it is in his iphone and I don't know when I can get that photo from him. My nails looked pretty but when it was a bit tiresome when the time comes to clean them off. Anyway, we had fun but Mama can only do this once a month ok...bila Mama cuti sembahyang....:)

Country Heights Resort, Kajang
On 1 December 2009, Tok Bak invited us to go along for a one night stay at this resort. Bak didn't come as it was a working day. We had a 3 bedroom apartment. We had fun during the day. Redza, Shahirah & you played in the indoor playroom and in the evening we all went for a swim. Even though it was drizzling, we just went ahead and played in the pool. However, when it was time to sleep - that was a whole different story. I knew you have a problem sleeping over at other people's house but I mainly thought it was because there was no air-conditioning. There was air-cond in every room here. So I was really surprised when it was time to sleep and both of us went into the bedroom and you immediately cried and said that you wanted to go home. Arrgghhh! SoI asked whether you wanted to sleep in Tok Bak's room with Shahirah & Redza. You said ok. So with 3 available bedrooms, all 6 of us slept in the master bedroom. You & I slept on the mattress (brought in from the other room) while Tok Bak, Tok Lia, Shahirah & Redza slept on the king sized bed. I read you your bedtime stories while you drank your susu elmo and you fell asleep about 10 pm. Wonderful! But wait! You woke up around 1.20am and cried saying you want to go home. Oh no!
First you wanted to turn on the lights even though it was quite bright with the bathroom lights on. So I took you out and we sat in front of the TV (thank goodnes there was ASTRO's Disney channel 615 even though you don't usually watch it but since there was no Playhouse Disney channel 613, 615 had to do!) You just watched TV while tears flowed down and from time to time you would say "Arwen nak go home, nak balik. Mama go drive the car." Susah-susah, how to go jalan-jalan next time like this. Finally you nodded off at 4am and still woke up so early at 7.30am. Mama's kepala sudah pening because lack of sleep.
Once it was day time again I asked you " Would you like to stay at the hotel for one more night?" and you said "Yes!"....Huh?

Cooking
Cooking? Cooking!! The bane of my existense. I have no passion for cooking and I really wish that I do. I want to be able to cook real good, healthy food for Bai & Arwen but it is so hard. Let's just say I really don't have the "cooking thumb" as in you know when people say they have a "green thumb" means that they can do gardening and their trees or plants or whatever will grow up well & strong. Anyway, I don't have the cooking thumb. (I don't have a green thumb either but that's not so bad because that doesn't frustrate me. Not being able to cook well frustrates me to the point of breaking down & cry.) Sometimes it's funny - the things that happens in my kitchen and sometimes it's just sad. Seriously, nothing rings true like a bell right now than what old ladies have been saying for centuries " Perempuan belajar tinggi mana pun kena tau masak." I know it sounds really backward but now I really have to agree with them. It would just be wonderful and would make my life easier if I can just cook well for me! and of course for Bai & Arwen.
At least, I'm beginning to have interest now ever since having Arwen. Prior to that I had no interest at all. I'm also enjoying baking now. Cooking - not so much but baking's quite ok and Arwen loves to help out too especially with the noisy cook part aka using the cake mixer.
If I had a wish I want to be able to cook like Nigella Lawson. She is so relaxed and can calmly have a few guests over for dinner with minimal fuss. I love watching her cooking shows and of course she is beautiful too.
Anyhow, Arwen - I am sorry that your mother does not know how to cook well but I am working on it. Hopefully I can get better with practice and time.

I must tell myself.
I've got a whole long story on your potty training but I will update on that later because I just had to write this down now because it happened today.
I was busy cleaning up the play room, well cleaning up my stuff in what now has become your play room and you were downstairs drinking susu elmo and watching brainy baby cd. Suddenly, you came up looking happy & proud & wearing your pink adidas shorts with both legs in one leg hole. You told me "I went potty all by myself!" Ha? I was so surprised because ever since you turned 4 (exactly the day after you turned 4) you always tell me when you have to go potty. I always tell you and now you tell me back "I must tell Mama..I must tell Mama" whenever you want to go potty. But you have never went to potty all by yourself. So I asked you, did you wash after you went potty? You said "Yeah, I did." I didn't know whether to believe you or not but looking at the condition of your pants and the fact that your panties were inside out, I think I believe you.
I asked you "Why didn't you tell Mama?" and you replied strong and loud, "I must tell myself."
Aaahhh..my clever little girl. :)
Mama tak sempat nak ambil gambar but know this, the sight of you with both legs in one pants hole and not to mention that the shorts was all the way up that I can see your panties is so hilarious that I just burst out laughing!

My School Friends
Once I thought that my friendship with my school friends will last forever but alas time has shown me that for me it is not possible. Friends has now become mere acquaintances limited by factors such as where we live, what we do for a living and pretty much where we went to university. If not for Facebook, I would have definitely lost all contacts with all of my friends, from university and especially from school. I even came to a point where I thought "It's ok, I don't need friends." Of course, once I said that the universe decided to show me that having friends around is so much better than having none.
However, it saddens me when I think about my school friends like Mariam, Hanee, Alina and gosh, I can't even name any other girls because I guess I was never really close to any other friends. I was quite close to Mariam since we sat next to each other from Form 1 to Form 5 but she went to UK for her tertiary studies and I went to Australia. I think I was the only one from the circle I used to call my friends that went to Australia. The majority of them went to UK. As such, I have no common ground with them any longer. We don't live near enough to each other to visit. Even if I invited them to my house for Arwen's birthday, they won't come. To add some more distance, I think I'm the only one that I know of from my BBGS batch that has decided to completely go off the career track and opt for full time mommy track.
Truth of the matter is if we are not in the same locality let alone the same country, it's pretty hard to keep in touch. Furthermore, I always felt like I was the odd one out from my circle of friends when I was in school. I some what belonged in a group but yet I really don't feel like I belong. Mariam and Hanee was like the glue between me and the other girls. Hanee is a kind soul and would always try to include me in and Mariam just clicks with everybody and I just kinda tagged along with her.

Arwen goes to the Driving Range
This is your first time going to the driving range and using your real set of irons (I think this is what its called) or otherwise your very own real golf clubs but it was too heavy for you to lift it! When Bak was guiding you to hit the ball, you closed your eyes and didn't even look at the ball! So funny. This was at the Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam driving range on 24 November 2009. We went here just before we went to the dentist.

Having a life of your own...
I read in this book - Rules on Parenting by Richard Templar, that parents should let their child have a life of their own except for maybe the first 3 months of their life because it will be easier for them and for their parents when they grow up and be independent. I was like ?????. 3 months only?
I know that the following is me. I know that I'm holding on too tight to you and that it's hard for me to let you "have your own life" at 4 years old ok? But I've been leaving you with Aunty Linda & Shireen for short periods whenever the opportunity arises and I felt like I needed to get some work done in peace :). I remember the first time was the recent Ramadhan when Bak & I left you with Aunty Linda & Shireen at our house while we went out to get some food for buka puasa. Then later, when Uncle Sam & Shireen moved to our neighbourhood, I left you with Aunty Linda & Shireen for 45 minutes- the first time and then 2 and half hours couple of days prior to your birthday party and today for 2 hours. I still get anxious when you're not with me but I'm learning. I see that you are Ok and I will be Ok too.
You also did finger painting today! For the first time ever and you had fun with Aunty Linda & Shireen. I was happy for you but deep down I wished that I could have been with you but I really needed to catch up on the housework so that I can get some work done on the translation job I got tonight. So I took a deep breath and I let it go. It's ok. It's ok.

Bak is away....and Bak's 34th Birthday.
Bak is away to Brunei for 2 days and 2 nights. Just now when it was time to get ready for bed you said " I miss Bak." Yeah, it really is sad when he has to go away on business but of course he has too. It's work. Previously, when he had to travel, you & I would sleep over at Tok Bak's house but it's getting harder now because you really do want your own bed when going to sleep. You would ask for your bed and your home. You would be fine during the day but night time is terrible. You would toss & turn because there is no air-conditioner at Tok Bak's guest room! So this is the 2nd time that we are sleeping at home - just the 2 of us without Bak. I pray that all goes well for Bak & for us. Mama ni kadang-2 takut jugak but I have to be brave for your sake eh? :)
It was Bak's birthday on 8 Nov 2009. He turned 34 years old. We made a framed birthday card for him. We gave it to him after his birthday and Mama did not bake a cake for him either..kesian Bak. It's just that we had too much cake on your birthday. I thought we don't need cake so soon! Below is the picture of the framed birthday card.
Bak's colleague, Aunty Izlynn gave him a slice of cake. Guess who blew out the candle on the cake? See the below picture for answer.
..and this is the play doh birthday cake that you made for Bak. Pandai Arwen!

Super Duper Wen is Four Years Old!
My baby girl is 4! I don't want to get all mushy but you are after all my baby girl always and forever. I love you so much. This year we had another birthday bash for you. Smaller guest list than last year as we tried to keep it as small as possible. Itu pun sampai 84 people are invited. We had 4 birthday cakes this year. A record so far.
This was on your actual birthday 21.10.2009. When you woke up, I told you that it was your birthday and you immediately replied "Let's make a birthday party!" So you went downstairs and asked me to put up the birthday flags and balloons and you asked for a cake! Alamak, mama didn't expect you'd be asking for a cake this early. So I started baking a cake at 9 o'clock in the morning while you started arranging your table and your stuffed toys. So the cake I baked was yummy but it sunk in the middle (probably opened the oven too often). But you got to decorate it and put in the candles all by yourself. Then I continued to make muffins out of the cake batter and I accidentally turned the half-cooked muffins upside down in the oven! What a mess! In the middle of this chaos, you rushed into the kitchen and said "Oh no, mama's muffins are 'ruyyern'!" Ruyyern means ruined, of course. Then after the candle blowing you asked me "But where is everybody?" Oh dear, you thought that your birthday party was on that day itself.
Your birthday party was held on 31.10.2009. 10 days after the 21st. The balloons has even shrunk! But we had a great time, tiring but great. You love this Mickey cake. We blew out the candles on this cake with your friends as I wasn't sure exactly what time your cousins will be arriving.
You blew out the candles on this cake with your cousins and Shireen because she had another birthday party to go to earlier on.
This was a surprise cake from Aunty Melati & Uncle Shaman. So we get to blow out candles on yet another lovely & yummy cake. I know it seems as a bit much but no cake got wasted in the production of your birthday. Anyway, you are quite 'obsessed' with the whole birthday procedure. So cute. I call it birthday-sessed. So it really was fun. Your cousins love the birthday procedure too. At least you don't need to sing and blow out the candles 14x in a row anymore. 2-3 times is the max these days. Oh, and this year you have perfected the art of blowing out the candles. Last birthday, you got the pout going but no wind came out.
Mama & Bak love you so much. Mama prays everyday that you are safe, healthy, happy and may you have a blessed life, panjang umur dan murah rezeki. May you grow up to be a great person - loving, caring, clever, berakhlak mulia, soleh, charitable, polite, generous, successful and many more wonderful qualities. May you love, honour & cherish us in our golden years.
Always remember, you are loved and you are special.

Arwen Turns 3 years old
This was written in Jan 2009 - after your 3rd birthday.
3 years old now. You are such a joy and you bring so much happiness to Bak and I. We love you so very much. I finally understand what it means to ‘sayangkan anak’. It is something that you will only understand once you have children. I never imagined this is how it would feel. I cannot describe it but I’m sure all parents know of how it feels.
We had a party for your birthday. Not on the day itself as it was on a Tuesday. We had it on the 25th, a Saturday. It was a huge gathering for your parents’ standard as we never throw a party or had a full family gathering at our house except for your 2nd birthday last year. This year you are able to better appreciate what it means to have a birthday. You love to sing the birthday song, then clapping of hands, blowing out the candles, saying yeah!!! when the candles go out and then saying “cut the cake!”, saying 1,2,3 as you cut the cake and finally saying “jom makan!!” Yupp, you have this whole process well practiced over the past year. You know what it means to have a “party, party, party!” and of course receiving presents. This year you opened the presents as you receive them throughout the party. I had to distract you so we keep some to open at the end of the party.
Oh..you received so many presents. Alhamdulillah. It was so much fun. Mama pun enjoy sakan. (Remember, receiving presents is wonderful but don’t expect so much ok. They are just material things but not essential things. Always be grateful.)
Here were the presents you received. (I keep lists because we must always appreciate anything that we receive from others because they have taken the time and the money to get it for us. Thus, I want to remember who gave what. Does not matter whether we really like them or not but appreciation must always be given. Anyway, we love all the presents received)

Arwen's 2nd Birthday
I wrote this down - pen to paper on Sun, 21 Oct 2007 11.59 pm.
Dearest Arwen,
My baby darling. You turned 2 years old today. I can't believe it! I know how fast kids grow but I still can't believe it. You are so adorable and such a joy. We didn't have a celebration today because we are having a big party on your behalf next Saturday (pictures seen above). Bak and I invited friends and family to celebrate your birthday. I love you darling, Happy Birthday!
Thurs, 22 Nov 2007 2.38pm
Your 2nd Birthday
We had your birthday party on 27 Oct 2007 (Sat). It was the 14th day of Syawal - so everybody was still in Raya mood. It was also a cum Raya open house and housewarming party for us because your Bak and I have never invited so many people to our house before. This is the very first big makan-makan ever for us! It was a first experience for us throwing such a big party. We rented a tent, tables and chairs. Guest list was around 180 over people. Of course, not everyone could attend but it was a great get together and you my dear are so very lucky. You received so many birthday presents and so much duit raya/duit birthday. As it is, you received RM187.00 from Hari Raya and on the day of the party you received RM453.00!! That's a lot of money for a 2 year old kid. We deposited your money in the bank. We don't think you need any more toys. You received 25 birthday presents excluding presents from Mama and Bak. Here's the list of presents. (You ought to know by now how I'm a bit obsessed with keeping lists) - it really helps you to appreciate what other people have done for you. They spent their time and money just for you my little baby girl. Ok, here goes
1) Dancing baby doll from Mak Lin and family
2) You & Me baby doll from Pak Long & family
3) Minnie Mouse Classic Soft Toy from Alang & Aunty Maniz

Your favourite present was the masak2 play set from Tok Bak. There's a teapot, akettle, 4 teacups etc. You took any one of them with you when you mandi, wash for diaper change, out to the park, min air kat depan rumah. Mama sampai pening sebab Arwen nak main air aje. Dalam rumah pun nak main air.
It was a great party but oh so tiring. Nasib baik Tok and Mak Cik Liza (Tok's friend) were there to help from start to finish. You also had fun playing with your cousins, blowing the candles on your birthday cake. Oh, if you are wondering what Mama and Bak got for you...well, I bought you the pink tricycle before your birthday came and after your birthday Bak bought you thr Braun Disney Princess electric toothbrush.
Happy 2nd Birthday Darling. Mama and Bak love you so very very much!
| Look at all the presents! Alhamdulillah. |
A slideshow of pictures which I made.
Arwen's 1st Birthday
10 Oct 2009 - I am trying to document all your birthdays here in this blog. So essentially this is a re-cap. You turned one year old. It was still during the month of Ramadhan. Since you were still hesitant around strange people and even the family still, so we thought that it would be best if we just have a quiet family birthday gathering for your very first birthday! We bought kedai bismillah's nasi biryani and a secret recipe cake. Yumm!
Sporty Baby Golf...
Well...by the time you can read this Arwen dear, you will know that Bak absolutely loves golf! That is why he introduced golf to you at such an early age. You got your first toy golf club when you were only 22 months old. Barely two years old. The following picture was taken on 25.8.2007. Then sometime in 2008, we got you another toy golf club set but I don't think I have a picture of that.

That's Bak trying to teach you play golf.
Recently, Bak bought a golf dvd which teaches kids from the age of 1-4 the basics of golf. You simply love it! You watch it every day over and over again and you follow along whatever that the kids on the DVD does. What is even more great is that last month, we just bought you a new Winnie the Pooh golf set complete with the bag! Only RM15 at Carrefour Subang. What a bargain. Just slightly before that in August 2009, Bak actually bought you a real golf bag complete with a set of real irons at Cash Converter. We haven't used it yet but you sure love the Winnie the Pooh set which now includes all your other golf clubs which we bought earlier on.

Taken on 30.8.2009. Arwen & her first real golf set.
Here's a photo of Arwen hitting the golf ball taken on 9.10.2009.

That's your Winnie the Pooh golf set.
Well, it's no secret that we probably want you to be the next Tiger Woods. Manalah tahu kan hehehe. InsyaAllah. No pressure Wen. We just want you to be happy. I just hope you will take after Bak in terms of sports. At least have one sports that you love & enjoy doing. I was never a sporty person. I definitely was no athlete back in school. When I had to play hockey, I screamed louder than I played every time the ball comes near me! Unlike Bak who plays ALL sports when he was in school. You name it rugby, hockey, football...apa lagi Bai? Oh...tennis, swimming etc and your Tok Bak, he simply loves playing badminton. He plays regularly 3 times a week from the time he was single until now at age 69, with 2 wives,8 kids and 10 grandkids under his belt! I so envy the passion because I have none for any sports. Oh, however, I did enjoy playing basketball when I was in Ausmat (my matriculation before flying off to Australia)and in the evenings when I was in university in Australia. That was fun. That was it really, I wanted to play for fun and not for competition.
Yesterday, we went to Chu Chom's house for makan-2 and went home quite late at about 10.30 pm. You were so sleepy already and I told you that you can sleep in the car first as we've got a long way to go and you said to me "But I want to play golf!" That got me laughing. Ada hati nak balik rumah main golf lagi. Padahal nak buka mata pun dah tak larat.
That's Bak trying to teach you play golf.

The name of the story is ..."Arwen locked the door..!"
My dearest Arwen, on 1/10/2009, you locked yourself in the bedroom and could not unlock the lock. I was outside the master bedroom, vacuuming and you decided to close the door because it was noisy. You always do this. However, on this particular day, you decided to lock the door! and not the lock which we have a key to, it was the dead bolt lock which does not even have a key hole from outside! Oh man, was I panicked! I panicked, you panicked and you cried and cried and cried and you kept telling me "It's not working..it's not working..it's too heavy.." referrring to the lock. I was so heartbroken hearing it. Then you picked up my handphone and said "Nak call mama..nak call mama..". However, whatever that you pressed got you to Tok Lah. and she panicked because no one spoke when she picked up and she heard the sound of you crying! She called back 4 times and every time you picked up the call- you were crying so loud! She thought that I had passed out or injured or something like that. Bak called you too on the phone but you were still too panicked to calm down. Tok Lah then called Tok Amal and then Tok Amal called Bak and Tok Bak! My goodness! You even managed to get me on the house phone but you did not say anything. I was getting panicked by the minute but I knew I had to calm myself because I knew that I had to get you out no matter what.
So I took out the very heavy ladder and I used it to climb onto the porch's roof to get to the bedroom's window. I was actually quite scared because it is quite high up even though it doesn't look it and I was afraid of falling, injuring myself and making matters worse! Anyway, Alhamdulillah I was all right and managed to climb up safely. I saw you lying face down on the bed crying..kesian sangat. You stopped crying the minute you heard me and saw my face at the window and I asked you to give me your golf club because the window panel where the grill can be opened is locked. Thank goodness for the golf club! (In my haste, I forgot to think it through of how was I going to open the window.) Well, thank goodness for the golf club. So I hooked the window latch, opened the window and the I opened the grill's padlock. Thank Allah we have a grill that can be opened! Thank Allah that we have a spare key for the padlock outside the bedroom! Thank Allah that I already opened the other windows panels on that day!
You hugged me like you haven't seen me in 10 years and started to cry again! It was gut wrenching! You tried to tell me what happened and started sobbing. You said "Mama is gone...Arwen cannot see Mama.." Alahai, sedih sangat.
Anyway, you got over the trauma because half an hour later we went swimming with Shireen and Uncle Sam (which was planned the day before - wah..we actually performed the rescue well in time to meet our appointment with Shireen...hehehe). You can retell the story now of how you got locked in the bedroom and that Mama is a super hero because I rescued you. Why, six days later (6/10/2009) you woke up from one of your rare naps and suddenly said out loud.."The name of the story is...Arwen locked the door!" You sure are a funny girl, always blurting the oddest thing at the oddest time.
So mama is Super Hero Mama and as it follows through, I now call you Super Duper Wen, just so that we can both be super heroes! Hence, the title of our blog...:)

Super Duper Wen
Well today marks the day that I finally decided to join in the blogging bandwagon. However, I have not decided whether I want to publish my blogs. Maybe I shall just leave it as drafts. I mean I really am just writing to Arwen and I have been doing that on & off since she was born but it is kind of hard to keep track because I first started off in my book, then in my laptop..so it's kind of here, there and everywhere. Not to mention my diaries, which I started since I was 12 years old. Now that's a real mess because it really is here and there and everywhere! With this blog - I am hoping that I can get it all organised from now on, not to mention I can write from anywhere that has internet access and from any computer.
Moving on as to why I am not sure whether I want to post my blogs to the world wide web - well, I am thinking the only people I really want to read my blog are Bai, Arwen and InsyaAllah, my future children. Maybe I'll just give them my password. (Note to self - check with Bai on this). Next, who in the world would want to read my blogs? and seriously do I really want to open up my heart & soul to the public? I am kind of shy/embarassed, really. Well..points to ponder on while I start my blogs.
Ok (it's night time now, the above was written in the morning), now I know that I can limit the people who can read my blog. So for now its just for you Bai (not that you have time to read, I know) and of course my Super Duper Wen! (when you are able to read small prints).
